Trafford’s Future: Your Choice
It is election time again in Trafford. This is your chance to decide the direction the borough will take and who you trust to run the council and protect vital local services.
The council is responsible for many services people rely on every day. These include libraries, leisure centres, and support for children and young people. The council also looks after street cleaning, parks, and green spaces, and helps improve town centres through regeneration projects. Other important work includes supporting people’s health and wellbeing and keeping communities safe by tackling antisocial behaviour in partnership with the police.
Council staff also work hard to bring in external funding that benefits local residents. This has helped deliver projects such as the BMX Pump Track in Partington, the transformation of Sale Library, the Cosgrove Hall Film Archive, and more affordable housing across Trafford.
Since Trafford Labour took control of the council in 2018, I am proud of what has been achieved. We have invested more money in children and young people, improved leisure centres in Urmston and Altrincham, and delivered hundreds of much-needed new homes. Regeneration in Altrincham town centre has continued, and major improvements in Stretford are well underway. We have also invested in safer pedestrian crossings and made it easier and safer for people to cycle.
Trafford is a diverse and creative borough, and Labour is proud to support local arts, culture, and heritage. We are also lucky to have many green spaces, including parks and allotments. We have secured funding for new play equipment, protected William Wroe Meadows in Flixton through Fields in Trust, and worked with allotment groups on a new borough-wide strategy.
Holding power is a privilege, but it also brings responsibility. Some recent budget decisions have been difficult, but they were necessary to protect frontline services that residents depend on. When challenges arise, it is important that those seeking public office can offer realistic solutions. At the most recent council budget, other parties did not put forward a workable alternative.
Soon, we will publish the 2026 Trafford Labour Manifesto. It will set out our plans to support children and families, improve safety, protect the environment, strengthen leisure services, and provide good-quality housing. It is a positive and detailed programme for Trafford’s future.
This election is about choices. I believe Labour has proven its commitment to delivering for Trafford and has a clear vision for what comes next.
Cllr Liz Patel, Deputy Leader of Trafford Council.
